The European Big Data Value Forum (EBDVF) 2024, held in Budapest from October 2-4, gathered leading experts in artificial intelligence, big data, and digital transformation. Among the contributors was the CoGNETs project, which participated in the automotive track, unveiling plans for advances in connected vehicle technology.
As part of the session Bringing Advanced Digital Technologies to Applications in the Road Transport Sector, Giovanni Rimassa, Chief Innovation Officer at Martel Innovate, presented CoGNETs’ planned pilot use case with a talk titled Driving Towards Adaptive Performance of Battery Electric Vehicles: Enhancing Powertrain Technology through CoGNETs’ Intelligent IoT-to-Cloud Solutions. This session, held on October 2, focused on overcoming the challenges of integrating AI, data analytics, and robotics in automotive engineering—a sector traditionally constrained by regulatory and safety requirements.

Intelligent Swarms and the Future of Connected Mobility
CoGNETs is reimagining Intelligent Infrastructure Management with a scalable Middleware Framework designed to enable IoT, edge, and cloud devices to form dynamic, self-organizing swarms. This swarm intelligence model optimizes data processing and service provisioning while ensuring cyber resilience, digital privacy, and energy efficiency.

The project’s mobility-focused pilot use case showcases how adaptive powertrain strategies can enhance the efficiency and longevity of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs). By leveraging collaborative machine learning and real-time data-driven control strategies, CoGNETs envisions benefits including:
- Failure mitigation in vehicle systems
- Extension of battery lifespan
- Improved BEV performance and efficiency
- Reduction in software integration and calibration costs
- Game-theoretic optimal service management for autonomous fleets
Bridging AI and Automotive Innovation
The automotive session also featured insights from industry leaders, including experts from Continental Autonomous Mobility Hungary Kft., Vicomtech, and CoGNETs partner AVL List GmbH (represented by Bernhard Peischl). A panel discussion explored the challenges and opportunities in implementing AI-driven solutions for road transport, highlighting the potential of swarm-based IoT-to-Cloud systems like CoGNETs.

As EBDVF 2024 concluded, it reinforced the critical role of intelligent, decentralized computing in the future of connected mobility. CoGNETs’ innovative approach to AI-driven vehicle optimization is poised to shape the next generation of digital infrastructure, ensuring more resilient, efficient, and intelligent transportation ecosystems.
